Silk Threads in association with Texas Indo-American Physicians Society (TIPS) welcomed over 500 attendees at their Tenth Annual Charity Gala, held at the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas on Saturday, November 16th. The theme this year was “Shatter the Stigma – Refocus on Mental Health Awareness”, and as in the past years, all proceeds went to the selected charity, which this year was National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).
After a touching story by a mental health patient “AJ”, who described how he had been helped by NAMI, Silk Threads showcased a 3 part Fashion Show, highlighting traditional Indian regional dresses to modern contemporary designs. India is a very culturally diverse country. The first segment highlighted the cultural diversity of India through traditional dress styles. TIPS member physicians walked the ramp in the traditional dress representing their State from India. The next segment showcased a more modern take on Indian fashion, with another group of physicians walking the ramp in contemporary styles from Silk Threads. The final segment showcased professional models walking the ramp in chic, Indian-inspired evening-wear designed by Ruby Bhandari.
The fun-filled evening ended with an after-party, successfully raising funds for a great cause.
The best compliment was from an attendee when he was leaving- “Where can we buy tickets for the 2020 Gala?”
