Grooms are given a fraction of the guidance brides get, and usually far less time. The good news is that menswear decisions are more structured. Once you know which of the four main silhouettes suits the function, the rest follows quickly.
The sherwani
The most formal option and the traditional choice for the wedding ceremony itself. A sherwani is long, structured and usually worn over a kurta and churidar. It carries embroidery well and photographs with real presence.
Ivory, gold and pastel sherwanis have become the standard for daytime ceremonies, while deeper tones suit an evening mandap. Browse our sherwani collection to see the range of weights.
The bandhgala
Sharper, shorter and more tailored than a sherwani. The bandhgala, sometimes called a Jodhpuri, takes its cut from a western suit jacket but closes at a mandarin collar. It is the most versatile piece in a groom’s wardrobe because it can be worn again with trousers for formal events long after the wedding.
Choose a bandhgala for a reception, an engagement, or a court ceremony where a full sherwani would be too much.
Indo-western
The most contemporary route, and the one that has grown fastest. Draped kurtas, asymmetric jackets, cowl drapes and structured capes all sit under this heading. It suits a sangeet or a cocktail evening where you want movement and a modern line.
See the indo-western range for the current cuts.
Kurta sets and Nehru jackets
For the functions around the wedding, mehndi, haldi, a puja at home, a well-cut kurta set does more work than anything else you own. Add a Nehru jacket and the same kurta moves from daytime informal to evening festive.
Our kurta sets and vests are the most re-worn pieces we sell, so it is worth investing in fit here.
Matching with the bride, carefully
Coordinating is good. Matching exactly rarely photographs well, because two identical shades of red flatten against each other. Work in the same family instead: if she is in deep maroon, an ivory or gold sherwani with maroon detailing will read as a pair without competing.

Leave time for tailoring
Menswear lives or dies on fit, and the shoulder is the one thing that cannot be easily altered. Come in eight weeks out if you can. Browse the full menswear collection to start, then book a fitting.
